Life on the merchant vessel 'The Charlbury', 1947.
After training on the merchant navy training vessel, the Vindicatrix, based in Liverpool, John Ashcroft set sail around the world on the Charlbury. The Vindicatrix was an important training vessel in Liverpool providing boys with an exciting opportunity to travel the world. Life at sea resulted in John's ultimate relocation from the UK to Australia, whilst providing a wealth of funny stories that have been told to the family through two generations.
